“Simon is an autistic nonverbal savant in free diving and in-water mediation” says Juan Chavez, the father of Simon (@autistic_soul_diver), who was diagnosed at age 3 with autism, and began swimming lessons when he was 12. “We observed how he spent hours and hours floating in the water without effort and controlling his buoyancy,” Juan says. “We decided to take him to the ocean… it was like his natural environment. They are memories that travel with us as ghost companions,” says the artist who only works with color images — to avoid her work feeling morbid. 👻⁣ ⁣ #ThisWeekOnInstagram, show us how you express yourself through the things you love. 🎃⁣ ⁣ Please submit your own photos and videos to the project using the #ThisWeekOnInstagram hashtag.
