HOW-TO AND BENEFITS OF PLANKING Have you ever seen anyone plank and think “that looks easy”? Have you ever tried to plank yourself? Well, if you have you would know it's from being as easy as it looks. As well as being a great exercise that you can do in the comfort of your own home, it has a range of benefits to help in your everyday lifestyle: Reduces back pain Improves overall balance Strengthens your core Improves posture Improves metabolism While planks primarily work your core muscles such as your rectus abdominis (more commonly known as six-pack abs) and your transverse abdominis (deep core muscle located beneath your rectus abdominis), they also work your entire body, noticeably your legs, shoulders, chest, triceps and biceps. Planks are also a great way to improve posture and help relieve stress from your lower back, especially for those who sit at a desk all day. A great way to get started in terms of incorporating planks into your daily schedule is by simply starting with a 30 second hold. If this is too much, feel free to regress by dropping to your knees before coming back up once comfortable enough to do so. Once you have mastered 30 seconds, increase duration to 45 seconds, 60 seconds, 75 seconds, 90 seconds, 105 seconds and finally 120 seconds (2 minutes). You may notice that your body will begin to shake during your plank, so please note this is a normal reaction as a result of muscle fatigue. As you improve your strength and overall fitness, this will become less of an issue and in no time you will be able to push through to that 2 minute plank hold. AND importantly, don’t forget to breathe throughout! Planking for two minutes every day will enhance your spine stability, now isn’t that a fantastic two minute investment to easily get you on the right path to a healthier YOU? To perform the basic forearm plank, find a solid surface which you will be comfortable on and simply follow the steps below: - Keep your entire body parallel to the floor with your forearms and toes on the floor, your elbows pushed into the side of your ribs; - Your body should form a perfectly straight line from the crown of your head, all the way to your heels.

just a lil keto inspired breakfast this morning!! Just whisk two eggs and 1/4 of almond milk together and then pour straight into the pan! I love how diverse omelettes can be, there are too many toppings to chose from!! Today I chose to add some dairy free cheese, mushrooms and some grated zucchini. Then as some toppings on top I added some tomato and avocado (to get some healthy fats in). Overall this was absolutely delicious and was the perfect way to start this rainy day today!
