Air Force Marathon 2019 in the books, and I managed to PR by 3 minutes with a 2:52:16, or 6:35 pace per mile. This earned me 14th Overall, and 1st in my age group. Although it was not my goal time, I'm very pleased with this after a 30 minute delay, and finishing in a feels like temp in the high 70s. Looks like team AFRC as a whole did a great job, and I'm optimistic we are going to, at the very lest, be in the top 3 MAJCOM teams when all is said and done. Birthday WOD to start of my day was perfect with my @helotes_crossfit family! 🎉 • Today’s workout was the “Deck of Cards” with burpees, Hang power cleans, hand stand pushups, and mountain climbers 👊🏼 • The joker card was 4.8k in the assault bike and a 1000m row.. this was the second card I grabbed, so it was rough from the start! But we finished it all out in 40 minutes and didn’t die, so I’d say it was a successful start to my day! 😅

Progressive overload ... . 6 months ago I hit 150kg for a sketchy looking new 1RM. I’m now hitting it for a better looking 2 reps and a new 1RM of 163kg 👌🏼 . The principle of progressive overload involves placing demands on the body which must be increased progressively over time. . There are a number of ways in which as a coach we can manipulate the programme for an overload to occur, such as: Increase intensity (lift more weight than the week before), Increase Volume (completing more reps and sets), Increase frequency (the number of sessions within the week), Increase tension (take longer to complete the exercise repetition). . However, too much overload can lead to under-recovery and injury. The challenge therefore lies in getting the balance right, so that you keep improving without exceeding the body’s capability to recover. . Stronger first, Happy lifting 💪🏼
