Persimmon season. The fruit of the gods. Had my first one yesterday! Super ripe and almost syrupy with an almost melon taste. Or a cross between an apple and a plum. Cut off the leaves, make sure it doesn't have seeds or cut them out, then eat like an apple or slice and add to whatever! *apparently the most common types are Hachiya and Fuyu. Neurotransmitters (NTs) provide communication between cells in our nervous system. Some NTs can inhibit a cell signal while others relay and pass it on. They are released by one neuron and taken up by another. Depending upon the specific NT, there is a release of sodium, potassium, or chloride intracellularly. This causes an electrogradient and thus creates the nerve impulse or can prevent it. NT deficiencies or excess can lead to many types of disorders mainly sleep and mood. One of the most common depression medication consists of SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors). These medications increase serotonin in the brain, which is our feel good NT. Serotonin also leads to melatonin production, which supports healthy sleep. NTs can be tested and it might even be extremely beneficial for someone dealing with depression, anxiety, or poor sleep. In addition, amino acids tyrosine, phenylalanine, tryptophan, glycine, and glutamate are needed for NT production. So poor protein absorption due to gut dysfunction, low stomach acid, excessive intake of antacids, or just low protein intake may reduce NT production. She developed severe PTSD as a result of participating in a parrot behavior experiment at a veterinary college. Then we project the world in a wrong way, according to what used to be, not to what is now in the present. To live more in the present, practice constant coming back to the present moment or living meditation or mindfulness as you like to call it.
