Yesterday was so good for my soul. My life has felt like such a mess this past month, kids on summer break, moving and remodeling our old house, dealing with injuries, it’s been a bit crazy 🤪. Spending the day doing what I love surrounded by friends and family was just what I needed. I made 5/6 lifts ending with 84kg #185) Snatch, 103kg #226) Clean and Jerk, for a total of 187kg #411). Took first place and qualified for the American Open Finals and Nationals! Thanks @nikki_carlin_olaskey @coach_brucimus and @trinitydeveraux for all the coaching and @mikail33 for being the best training partner and friend! Shoutout to @stretch_wizard for fixing my hip so I could compete 🙏🏻 #hyperionstrong #olympicweightlifting #summerslang2019

My beloved training partner @projectburr —making sure she gets a #personalrecord when I’m not there 🤬😡☹️ . . Just kidding!! I’m glad she finally busted thru that bunker! But yeah, definitely grateful she’ll be back soon!! (TMI: I suffer just a little tiny bit from “the blues”. But when I’m with Megan she makes me laugh so hard I think I maybe don’t need medication. Whether or not that’s strictly true, I’m certainly grateful to have this adopted daughter in my life right now!) . . . #legsfordays #backsquat #thisisthesquatthatneverends #itjustgoesonandonmyfriends #somepeoplestartedsingingitnotknowingwhatitwas #andtheyllcontinuesingingitforeverjustbecause #thisisthesquatthatneverends . . #SummerSlang2019 #2020USNationalsOlympicTrials . . #weightlifting #greatestsportonearth #speedstrength #horsepower #humanperformance #thirdpull #UtahCenterforOlympicWeightliftiing #andkidswhocantreadgood

@jm_fit1 with a load/volume #personalrecord of 200lbs X 6 in what is very much like the old-school #restpausetraining mode from the 80s and prior. This looks to give him plenty of work yet still focus on keeping good and increasingly better/more efficient technique. Regarding the latter, Jacob’s going to try to see if the newish idea of pushing out hard with the knees against the arms gets him a breakthrough next time. Theory behind this “modern technique” specific: lots of mechanical things having to do with how our bods are put together, but also simply just minimizing the front-back “foot print”, whence keeping most of the athlete closer to the combined athlete-barbell system’s center of gravity. Olympian Wayne Wilson has emphasized that when “things” are closer to the center of gravity, the barbell feels lighter. Wayne seems to still think the jury is not out yet on this particular way of making that minimization, or that it’s application depends heavily on the way the athlete is put together, which I would have to agree with. . . . . #SummerSlang2019 . #weightlifting #snatch #cleanandjerk #gains #fitspo #slambarskillprs #gainz #utahbarbell #UtahCenterforOlympicWeightlifting #utahbarbellprogramming #strongestteaminthehistoryofutah

Being my first meet in a year, I’m happy with my 80/93kg lifts. Not being able to train as much due to my work schedule, opening at 80 was a little scary for me. I’m so happy I did. Never satisfied with the c&j tho 😏😏 I felt mentally prepared, but it was hot as balls all day. I felt like the heat really zapped me. Super huge thanks to @bergopher @wlandonberg @jennysuisse for EVERYTHING ❤️ #summerslang2019 #summer #olympicweightlifting

OH.MY.GOLLY.GEE.WILLICKERS!! Michele!! Sooo many good things here: A) she’s a beast! 225lb X 20 squats THEN #powerclean up to equal her lifetime best of 215lb (with a few misses at 225) B) like a lot of athletes, if she squats a butcher (20 reps), here and there she learns to squat more efficiently, out of duress! #duressisthemotherofinvention C) we’ve learned Michelle will need lots of plyometrics next week to get her to pop without needing to wear her butt out with a butcher first (which helps her find resources not as yet findable otherwise). . Theory and game plan: weightlifting is sport of posture, which is one of a few reasons why heavy deadlifting doesn’t typically carryover well. On the other hand, high repetition back squatting at high intensity typically helps people develop “invincible posture”, which is what’s needed to launch a load from the hips at triple extension—ie, it’s what’s needed for the body to be able to use the big movers to *throw* rather than just budge a weight. In other words, it’s what’s needed to get a weight *ballistic*—meaning to continue moving well past the point the athlete is actually exerting any more force on it. In the jerk for example, it’s well-known that to launch the barbell overhead high enough to capture requires a peak force of about twice the load on the barbell. This requires all the joints to be in an alignment of enormous mechanical advantage, if only for an instant. . The idea that squats develop leg strength is actually secondary here to the fact that they develop powerful posture. This is about the only explanation for an athlete’s ability to power clean right after a taxing set of squats being enhanced not hindered. . Game plan: posture is not the only thing that matters, so she’ll definitely need to do some cleans before making a big advance on cleans—duh. But when we try this trick on the nervous system again, we’ll a) up the load to 235lbs b) reduce the reps to 16 and c) fill things in with smaller jumps, including one at 220lbs... . @michelleleepalmer #personalrecord . #SummerSlang2019 #MastersWorldCup2019 #MastersWorldChampionships2020 . . #mastersweightlifting #weightlifting #squats #tripleextensio

@michelleleepalmer with an important sequence 9 days out—1 rep each at the following percentages: 94, 88, 91, 94, 97, 100. So 6 reps with mean of 94%. Likelihood of hitting 103% at meet increased significantly with this data. . Crossfitter tryin‘ to be a weightlifter round ✌🏻 going down this weekend. It only took me 1 year to sign up for another oly meet, but I’m so excited to compete again. It’s always so fun to showcase the work that’s been put in throughout the year. Let’s just plan on hitting more than one snatch this time around 😏🏋️‍♀️ 📸 @trex0323 #summerslang2019 #olympicweightlifting #hyperionstrong
